Livents Celebrates Jacques Torres' 10 Year Anniversary

On Monday, December 20, 2010, the executive partner of Livents attended the 10 year anniversary of the famous pastry chef, Jacques Torres. At the event and throughout the chocolate factory, tables were set-up for sampling of chocolates, desserts, smoked salmon, roast beef, caviar, and much more. This was a test of the taste buds. Jacques Torres grew up in France and developed a love for baking at a very young age. He has traveled around the world, taught others his talent, gained a degree of Master Pastry Chef, and was awarded the Meilleur Ouvrier de France metal. Now he celebrates the 10 year anniversary of his chocolate business. How inspiring!

Endometriosis Foundation of America

On Tuesday, December 21, 2010, the executives of Livents attended The Endometriosis Foundation of America Holiday Celebration. This event helped raise awareness about the benign gynecological disease that affects millions of women around the world.

Endometriosis occurs when the tissue that makes up the lining of the uterus (endometrial cells) is found outside of the uterus. These lesions of uterine lining can grow into a size of an egg or bigger and it can be found anywhere in the pelvic or abdomen cavities including: Ovaries, fallopian tubes, pelvic sidewalls, bladder, bowel, intestines and rectum. During a women’s menstrual period, the pain varies depending on the amount of endometriosis she has – causing much pain, cramping, scar tissue, and infertility.

The Endometriosis Foundation of America is a nonprofit organization focused on fighting against the devastating effects of Endometriosis. Through increased awareness, education, research and legislative advocacy, the Endometriosis Foundation of America is committed to improving the affected lives of individuals through early detection and treatment. Dr. Tamer Seckin, founder of the foundation and leading expert of Endometriosis, has treated this condition for over twenty years. He uses the advance Laparoscopic surgery technique to treats patients with Endometriosis conditions, fibroids and pelvic pains. This minimally invasive surgical procedure consists of a small incision through pelvic or abdominal cavities creating a deep removal of the disease.

Padma Laksmi, actress, model, author, TV host of Bravo’s "Top Chef" Reality show and co-founder of the foundation, suffered from this disease since she was a teenager. She always experienced severe pelvic pain and bleeding during her menstrual period that sometimes prevented her from going about her daily functions. As she got older, the pains only worsen; she lost hope and thought there was no cure to her condition. It was not until she was referred to Dr. Seckin, she was able to have a “normal” life.

The night was filled with inspirational speeches by its founders, performances from Opera singer, Harolyn Blackwell, and Grammy award-winning chorus, The Brooklyn Youth. Livents was honored to attend an event to support such an important cause and hope to plan a fundraiser for this foundation in the near future. Raising awareness one step at a time.

Lisa Li in Las Vegas

On December 10, 2010, Lisa Li, Executive Partner of Livents, flew to Las Vegas for the weekend. She took this opportunity to explore venues, restaurants, and hotels. The city  provided an excellent ambiance for bachellorette parties, birthday parties, or even weddings. She stayed at the Palazzo, Hotel, sister to the Venetian Hotel. Her suite overlooked the distant mountains of Nevada and  neighbored the Wynn Hotel. The trip gave her an opportunity to venture venue options and to analyze spaces first-hand. To her surprise, many of the hotel's outside pool areas were very appropriate for up-scale weddings (the only obstacle would be dodging the tackiness of the slot machines). Las Vegas provided an extra pinch of "bling" that no other city could provide.
